Identification of Web System Requirements
Knowledge Genes® Case Study:
Customer

The world's longest established Internet Service Provider.

Situation

The business was growing extremely quickly. It urgently needed a new enterprise-wide web system to automate the processes involved in selling services globally.

Customer Problem

A conventional user requirements exercise provided by a "big five" consulting firm had failed to produce any sensible results or conclusions and had become a drain on managers' time. People were expressing growing antagonism towards consultants and lengthy workshops. The entire project was at risk.

Solution

Knowledge Genes® helped the IS project team build a What, How, Why model of the end user needs based on short, one-to-one sessions with key managers and staff, from CEO downwards. The Knowledge Genes® end user requirements model was then reviewed and agreed in a single, cross-functional workshop. This model provided a blueprint of the Web System's purpose and processes and created a tested, logical system structure.

Primary Users

System developers, global Sales team, Multi-National Program teams.

Implications

A crystal clear statement of the strategic imperatives the new system had to support had been captured and agreed within four weeks.

The What, How, Why structure ensured clear communications and a shared understanding of the exact end user needs.

Developers and end users both used the same tool - Knowledge Genes®. This enabled a direct translation of business need into a working web system.

Inefficient processes were identified and eliminated.

Results and Returns

"From concept to deployment has taken us three months. My normal expectation for a project of this weight would be seven months.  A complex project has been made clear" - Process Manager for Multinational Programs
